How to use salads to heal and what each ingredient does for you physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

I love salads when they have a variety of tastes and textures in them.

Before finding Medical Medium I would have salads loaded with vinaigrette and cheese. Salads were giving me heartburn and I wasn’t sure why. I always thought salads were healthy so why was it giving me heartburn? I was so confused!

I’m so grateful I found MM healing tools and protocols because now I know why I was having these issues! If I apply the tools correctly, I’m usually heartburn free! I posted a link to MM’s blog explaining acid reflux and GERD in the more resources section at the end of this blog.

After reading his books I believe these types of salads were giving me heartburn because the troublemaker foods present in them were aggravating an overburdened system and feeding the bad bacteria causing the acid reflux. I have a fatty sluggish liver, low hydrochloric acid (good acids in the stomach), and more. I will be writing a post on how I diagnosed myself and started MM protocols so be sure to look out for that!

Cheese is on the top tier of the trouble maker foods that feed the bad bugs. Diary also creates more mucus in the body and the hormones in the cheese can mess with other systems as well. If you have acid reflux you want to steer clear of dairy, gluten, and eggs that feed the bad bacteria. Vinegar also pickles the organs when you consume too much of it, especially in conjunction with a high salt diet.

All that being said, I still love salads! The Medical Medium recipes in his books are particularly delicious and the herbs add so much amazing taste to them. While this recipe isn’t directly from one of his books, I like to make this for company that likes to put on a premade dressing. I made this for a 4th of July Party Chris and I hosted last year in 2021.

Please refer to the dressing section for more information on dressings in salads.

If you vary the items in your salad, the salad can be VERY tasty and VERY enjoyable! This salad recipe has a lot of crunch and many different tastes and textures from all the various ingredients added.

Variety is the spice of life! Enjoy!

SALADS AND HEALING

Salads are an incredibly amazing healing tool on a healing journey. You can put in many different ingredients from “The Holy Four” healing and life-changing foods. Fruits, vegetables, herbs/spices, and wild foods are these Holy Four foods. Adding these foods into your routine will help you with your healing journey.

Throughout the book “Life-Changing Foods” Anthony William explains that foods can help us heal physically, give us emotional support, and provide us with spiritual lessons.

Foods that are living like fruits, vegetables, and herbs can also attune to our energy and provide us the what our body needs. When we grow our own foods the attunement is strongest and we have emotional and spiritual benefits of connecting with Mother Earth as we grow a garden. It is meditative and transformational.

If we buy things in the market instead of growing our own food, AW recommends holding the fruit and running out hands over the fruit sitting on the counter a couple of times a day to allow the food to attune to our energy. You want to do this like connecting to a beloved pet. You can also talk to the produce and say positive things. Finally, you can hold the item in your hand for 30 seconds before cutting into it to let it attune to you.

In this post, I break down what each ingredient in the salad does for us spiritually, emotionally, and physically by using Anthony William’s book, “Life-Changing Foods” as well as some of his blog posts. Not all of the healing foods made it into this book, but he has written about them on his website.

I am only summarizing some of the information in this book and on his blog. Each section in the book also has a list of conditions and symptoms each food helps with which I do not include in this blog. There is so much more in here and I highly recommend you pick up a copy for yourself! I also post several blog links at the end of this post to the information I used in his blog.

AW also explains on p41, “Just knowing what these foods do for you can make all the difference. When you understand that fruits are cancer fighters, vegetables flush out acidity, herbs and spices build up the immune system, and wild foods help us adapt to stress, reaching for these foods transforms from a chore to an opportunity.”

DRESSINGS

Many premade dressings are not good!

They are processed with bad oils like canola oil because it is cheap. They also have chemical preservatives and natural flavors which are hidden MSG.

I did find an OK dressing that doesn’t have natural flavors or citric acid. It does however have some canola oil. It is best to just make your own if you can.

One really quick and easy dressing would be to do lemon or orange juice with some fresh herbs like basil, parsley, or dill. This is very simple, but I have to admit it wasn’t always easy for me to eat when I was used to the processed stuff and lots of fat in my salads with nuts and cheese.

Be sure not to have a dressing with fat in it if you are on a cleanse. MM has many dressing recipes on his blog and in his books as well. I’m still working on finding the ones I love!

I have also found a great whole plant-based channel that follows a doctor that promotes whole foods. She had a whole series on making whole-food-based oil-free dressings. I tried her french dressing and thought it was very good! Go to the more resources section to get a link to her YouTube page.

Making your own things like this makes you not want to eat as much of it. When you eat the processed stuff with the MSG and natural flavors it makes you addicted to these foods. You want to eat the whole box of cookies rather than a reasonable amount when MSG or natural flavors are present! I will write a whole blog post about this on soon! I started to put that information on this blog post, but that information turned into 7 pages quickly so I separated the post!

CLEANING UP

To clean up I usually just rinse off my cutting board and knife and let them air dry in the drying rack. I need to do this right after using them while the juices from all the vegetables are still wet. Once this juice dries up, then you need to get soap and water on it to get it off. If there is a bit of dirt on the cutting board from anything I sometimes will have to use the soap and water here too.

I’ll use the big bowl for a few days (up to 7 days) before the salad is all gone. After this is all done I will use soap and water to clean the bowl and lid as the lettuce and other items kind of decomposed a bit and that usually needs a better clean.

MATERIALS

  • Big bowl

  • Strainer

  • Cutting board

  • Paring knife

  • Santoku or chef knife

Note on cutting boards and knives:

When you use the sharp side of your knife to scrape your food off the board you will also get tiny fibers of wood or plastic on your knife and into your food. Therefore, you want the blunt side of the knife to scrape and pull up the food to put in your bowl. AW stated this information in one of his lives on YouTube.

INGREDIENTS

Go to the ingredient section that tells you about the emotional, spiritual and physical healing of these items.

  • 3 Romaine Lettuce Hearts

  • 7  small Radishes

  • 1 bag of Broccoli Slaw

    • Brocolli

    • Cabbage

    • Red Cabbage

    • Carrots

  • 1/2 Red, yellow, orange bell peppers

  • 4-6 Cocktail Tomatoes

  • 1 English cucumber

This makes a huge salad that lasts all week. I also bring this huge red bowl to dinners and potlucks. My salads usually go because they are popular!

What each ingredient does for healing

From the MM Blog and “Life-Changing Foods” by Anthony William the Medical Medium

Romaine Lettuce

Romaine Lettuce is in the Vegetable section of the Holy 4 food groups. Leafy Greens are found on pages 146-151 of “Life-Changing Foods” by Anthony William the Medical Medium.

Physical Support –

Leafy greens include lettuce, spinach, Swiss chard, mâche, and watercress. People don’t get

Enough leafy greens in their diets. That one or two lettuce leaves on a cheeseburger does not do much for you. Salads are one way to get more leafy greens in our diet!

This isn’t Medical Medium information, but Iceberg lettuce is not as good as darker leafy greens like spinach. I’ve just heard this in several magazines and things of that nature throughout my life. The darker greens like romaine, spinach, and arugula are much better for you than the very light iceberg lettuce!

MM tells us in the book that leafy greens sweep and scrub all the trapped yeast, mold, fungi, debris, and waste matter in the small intestine. They help move these things along in the intestinal tract and your body will finally eliminate them!

He also explains that leafy greens help the stomach become more alkaline which helps hydrochloric acid production. Strong Hydrochloric acid helps kill off the bad bacteria that make acids that cause GERD. H. pylori is one of these bacteria that leafy greens help eliminate and this bacteria causes stomach ulcers.

MM says leafy greens also create an alkaline body and lymphatic system. Our lymphatic system can become very acidic from chemicals, acids, plastics, pesticides, heavy metals, and pathogens constantly entering them. The lymphatic system affects many other body systems including the reproductive system. If we clean this up; then the rest will follow!

On https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/node/1409  I found out the lymphatic system is the body system that helps attack viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens. They hold lymphocytes and send them out to attack viruses and bacteria.

Emotional Support –

MM tells us that leafy greens can help us with emotional stagnancy. If our bodies are filled with toxic buildup physically, it will affect us emotionally as well. When we start cleaning up physically, we also clean up stored and toxic emotions. Leafy greens help us feel clean and clear again!

Spiritual Support –

Leafy greens help us stay in the present moment and recognize what is in front of us. They have a short shelf life and the sooner we eat them from the time they were picked; the better they are for our health. “Getting in tune with this awakens us to the other fleeting moments of life…”

Radishes

Radishes are in the Vegetable section of the Holy 4 food groups. They are found on pages 164-167 of “Life-Changing Foods” by Anthony William the Medical Medium.

Physical Support-

Radish roots are great for the heart because they help reduce bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol. The skin of the radish helps get rid of cancer. Radishes also restore the kidneys, liver, pancreas, and spleen.

The roots help the immune system replenish. The sulfur in them helps repel pathogens and kill intestinal worms and other parasites. The organosulfides create a protective barrier on the blood vessels keeping them clean and free of plaque that can adhere to the sides of the blood vessels.

Radish greens are also very beneficial. They have many prebiotics that can help repair the colon and other parts of the intestinal tract that has lost the ability to absorb nutrients. They also remove all of the unforgiving four including heavy metals.

Emotional Support –

Radishes help repair our systems rapidly helping us get out of despair we get when we get sick. Sometimes we can feel like our bodies are failing us because we get sick, but when we give it the right support, we will see improvements! Our bodies do have the ability to heal.

Spiritual Support –

When you grow your own radishes, it is best to harvest them when the leaves are young and tender. If you wait too long, the radish skin grows tough; their flesh grows fibrous; their greens can get overgrown.

Picking the radish at the right moment can help us tune into choosing the right moment for important conversations or making the right decisions at the right time. If you put something off too long, you can sometimes realize that you have missed that opportunity to reap the benefits.

We can also learn perseverance through the radish. If we plant new seeds with succession planting, then we always have another chance to “seize the moment”.

Broccoli, Red Cabbage, and Green Cabbage

Broccoli, red cabbage, and green cabbage are all in the Cruciferous Vegetables in the Vegetable section of the Holy 4 food groups. They are found on pages 136-141 of “Life-Changing Foods” by Anthony William the Medical Medium.

Other cruciferous vegetables include brussels sprouts, kale, broccoli rabe, arugula, and mustard greens.

Physical Support-

Cruciferous vegetables can ignite hidden healing abilities of other foods when eaten in certain combinations. One of the four combinations mentioned in the tips section is asparagus and broccoli. When eaten together, the broccoli activates cancer-fighting compounds in the asparagus.

Cruciferous vegetables can pull out radiation from the Thyroid that most likely got there from dental work. They are also good for lung health because of the two different types of sulfur in them. They can help restore and stimulate the growth of lung tissue. (p136)

Red cabbage can reverse scar tissue in the liver. Broccoli is like an all-purpose multivitamin that is amazing for the immune system. Broccoli can help every organ, gland, bone, nerve, and more! Green cabbage supports the joints and can reverse osteoporosis.

Emotional Support –

Cruciferous vegetables will help with confusion in general. Sit with a bowl of these vegetables to gain clarity.

Spiritual Support –

Cruciferous vegetables help make room for patience and thankfulness for ourselves and others in our lives. If you have had anyone stab you in the back, take comfort in the fact that these vegetables have been caring for our bodies for a long time and have had recent attacks on them about harming the Thyroid. In fact, they help the thyroid, not harm it. We need to honor those that have helped us, not turn our backs on them.

Carrots

Carrots are not listed in “Life-Changing Foods” by Anthony William the Medical Medium. He does however speak about the benefits of carrots on his Instagram page and blog.

Physical Support-

On MM’s Instagram, there is a post stating that carrots help the skin hair, and nails.

On his blog, he has a post about carrot, potato, and zucchini patties. In this recipe post, he explains that carrots help the liver refuel with glucose attached to minerals and vitamins. They also have phytochemical compounds that help prevent the growth of microorganisms that are not beneficial to the body when eaten raw. Look for the link for more information and recipes using carrots in the “more information” at the bottom.

Bell Peppers

Bell peppers are not in the Vegetable section of the Holy 4 food groups. You can however find a blog post about the benefits of bell peppers on the MM blog. The link is in the “more information” section.

Physical Support-

Bell peppers help lower cholesterol and have anti-cancer compounds that help lower the risk of certain cancers. They help with memory and concentration in the brain. The fiber in the bell pepper can help keep you full to curb your appetite which in turn aids in weight loss.

The green bell pepper is unripe so go for the red, orange, and yellow versions of this pepper to get the most vitamins and minerals. These peppers help in general with the immune system as well.

Eating unripe (or overly ripe) fruits or vegetables can lead to a stomach ache!

Their sweet crunchy taste makes them perfect to snack on or to have in salads or wraps as well.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are in not in the Vegetable section of “Life-Changing Foods” by Anthony William the Medical Medium. However, I found this information from his blog by typing “Medical Medium + tomatoes” on google.

Physical Support-

Tomatoes can help stop cancer cells from multiplying. They can help reverse diabetes and heal the liver. They are a powerful food that supports the immune system as well. There is a rumor that tomatoes can be toxic due to lectins and them being nightshade. This is not true. Nightshades are plants that blossom at night in the moonlight. Tomatoes need the sun to grow but can blossom at night if there is enough moonlight.

The vitamin C in tomatoes is so strong that it can stop many illnesses from developing. It can also help fight off 98% of cancers that he explains in “Thyroid Healing” by Anthony William.

If you get a stomach ache from tomatoes, consider what you eat them with. It probably isn’t the tomato causing the stomach ache. Other harmful foods that could cause stomachaches are gluten and dairy. Try a tomato in a salad with a good dressing that doesn’t have troublemaker additives in it and you will see the tomato start to heal you!

Cucumber

Cucumbers are in the Vegetable section of the Holy 4 food groups. They are found on pages 142-145 of “Life-Changing Foods” by Anthony William the Medical Medium.

Physical Support-

Cucumbers are extremely hydrating and cooling which helps tremendously in cooling a hot stagnant liver. It can also aid in keeping us young with all that hydration!

Fresh juice can cool overused adrenal glands and kidneys that may be struggling with filtering out toxic debris and acid.

Cucumbers can be fever reducers and help neurological conditions including anxiety. They contain an undiscovered coenzyme that helps the body’s protein digest so you can get the most out of things you eat.

Emotional Support –

If you know someone with a temper, try giving them some cucumber so they can cool down! Think of the phrase, “cool as a cucumber.”

Spiritual Support –

Cucumbers are often mistaken for vegetables, however, they contain seeds which meant they are fruits. They teach us not to judge a book by its cover. We don’t know others’ talents and gifts just by looking at them. “Cucumbers teach us to look deep inside ourselves and each other for the miracles we all contain.” (p143).

MORE INFORMATION

I got most of the information for the foods from the “Life-Changing Foods” book, but you can find more information from the MM blog links below. Please also check out my YouTube ASMR Video of this recipe linked below as well!

As a side note, AW does mention in one of his lives that the Romain isn’t as good as using cilantro as a salad base. I haven’t tried this yet because I used to hate cilantro, but I don’t think I could have it as a salad base just yet. (Look out for another post about my cilantro aversion!)
