INGREDIENTS
You can find the recipe in Cleanse to Heal on p300. The HMDS recipe is in all of AW’s books because it is integral to healing!
The ingredients of the HMDS are:
- 2 bananas
- 2 cups frozen or fresh wild blueberries OR 2 tbs powdered wild blueberries
- 1 cup fresh cilantro (stems included)
- 1 ts barley grass juice powder
- 1 ts spirulina (algae)
- 1 tbs Atlantic dulse (seaweed)
- 1 orange (squeezed or the whole orange peeled)
- ½ to 1 cup water (optional)
DIRECTIONS
- Combine all ingredients in a high-speed blender
- Blend until smooth.
- Add water to thin out the smoothie.
- Serve and enjoy!

TIPS
The ingredients in the smoothie can lose their potency throughout the week. It is best to make this fresh each day, but if you need to make it for the week, leave out the powders. Add them the day of.
I usually make my smoothies three days at a time at night. I will hold the powders and at them in the morning. Then I will use a smaller immersion blender to blend the powders well otherwise there are chunks of barley grass juice powder and spirulina in my smoothie which isn’t very appetizing.
AW mentions that If the barley grass juice powder and spirulina are too strong of a taste for you then you can start with a small amount and work your way up to the teaspoon.
The barley grass juice powder and spirulina make the drink very dark, almost black or a VERY dark purple. People always ask me what I’m eating when they see my smoothie. It tastes good to me as I mostly taste bananas, wild blueberries, and cilantro!
DETAILS MATTER
MM always mentions that the details matter! I can’t help but think that this is the Spirit of Compassion talking to him in his ear telling everyone these details because SOC knows that people miss them!
When doing the heavy metal detox smoothie, it is important to find Barley Grass JUICE Powder! I bought Barley Grass Powder at first because it was way cheaper and I missed the detail for the JUICE. These are two very different supplements so make sure you are getting the right one.
When purchasing Spirulina or Dulse, make sure this is from the Atlantic Ocean as the Pacific Ocean is like a big trash can. AW says the Pacific Ocean is very contaminated at this point and doesn’t recommend getting Dulse or Spirulina from there.

MODIFICATIONS TO HDMS AND MORNING ROUTINE
In this section, you will learn about my cilantro problems and how I started liking it, negative reactions like heartburn, modifications for taste, tips for finding ingredients, and size suggestions for hunger in the morning routine.
CILANTRO
I HATED cilantro. It tasted like soap to me!
I never really had cilantro in my food a lot as a kid. The first time I had it was room service in New York from a fancy hotel in high school. The eggs tasted like soap so I was so confused.
Then I had fresh pico de gallo from a Mexican restaurant for tacos and I realized it was the cilantro that made me hate the food! It wasn’t until after college that I figured this out, and a friend told me about the genetic disposition to cilantro aversion. This also illustrates how often I had fresh cilantro in my diet!
In the Medical Medium lives, I was one of the people asking for modifications because I could not stand the taste of cilantro. Some people on the lives said that I probably needed the cilantro if I had a negative reaction to it.
That triggered me at first because I thought my aversion was hereditary and I couldn’t control it. The 23andMe DNA tests said the same thing!
I emailed MM on his blog and asked the question about cilantro aversion out of desperation. Someone responded to me a few months later! I was amazed and excited! They referred me to an article I had found on his blog about cilantro and why some people don’t like it.
In the Cilantro post, he explains that cilantro aversion is because of a higher amount of toxic heavy metals corroding and causing a toxic runoff that ends up in the lymphatic system and saliva.
When I first started drinking the HMDS, I was trying to take a small handful of Cilantro and eat it even though it made me gag.
Then I tried to juice some cilantro, and I hated that it made the whole juicer taste and smell like Cilantro. Juicing the Cilantro was a little better to get down than chewing it although it would still make me gag.
I also tried to do the tincture for a bit as well. It didn’t taste as bad as the actual cilantro to me so that was nice. This was my go-to in the very beginning, but it was a bit more expensive.
Slowly but surely my taste started changing! I started with a small amount and worked my way up.
Eventually, I started putting it in the smoothie and thought it was ok. Then I started to add more and more because I wanted the small hint of the taste in there!
That astonished me!
I knew for sure my taste changed when I had a taco with fresh pico and cilantro and I actually liked it! I was so excited that my tastes were changing positively!
The cilantro aversion is caused by toxic heavy metal runoff, not genetics! Your taste buds can change when cleansing with the Heavy Metal Detox Protocols!
NEGATIVE REACTIONS
If you have a negative reaction to bananas because you are heavily burdened with viruses and pathogens, or have low hydrochloric acid, try changing the bananas out for mango or papaya.
I had really bad heartburn when I would have the banana after the celery juice in the morning. I swapped it out for mango and sometimes papaya. This helped with the heartburn.
TASTE
I needed to change up the taste some because I did this morning cleanse for a solid year and a half (minus a couple of days here and there).
I would also add strawberries or raspberries or something else to change it up. I would also swap out the blueberry for a different berry at times. I love strawberry banana smoothies so this was a favorite!
If I swapped out the blueberry for something else, I would use the wild blueberry powder instead. Blueberries are an essential ingredient in removing heavy metals so I wanted to make sure I got it somehow.
The powder is rather expensive so there were some days I just went without the blueberries. Or I would put in one cup of the frozen blueberries with another berry.
Raspberries have a lot of small seeds so the texture changed quite a bit with eating the small seeds.
Having the mango or papaya base also changed the texture some!
Variety helped me stick with this smoothie more!
FINDING INGREDIENTS
You can find all the supplements online. Vimergy.com has all the Vimergy products and the rest I got off Amazon.com as well.
The Medical Medium has a supplement list on his website that includes what he recommends. He has done the vetting to make sure his recommendations are free of all the nasty stuff including alcohol and things of that nature. Make sure you read the ingredient list carefully because sometimes companies will change these things and start adding alcohol to the supplements and things like that.
It was hard for me to find wild blueberries at first because Acme would have them one week and not the next. At first, I had to go to Target to get them which I don’t go to often.
Recently, I found I can get them from Shop Rite so I go there when I need to restock and buy several bags at a time.
My routine for the week involves going to Lidl, Acme, then sometimes Shoprite to get a few items I can’t find at those two stores. I can find aloe leaves, fresh turmeric root, and wild blueberries at ShopRite which is right up the street from me.
I also sometimes go to produce junction to get things for pretty cheap. I can also find aloe leaves there. I can find turmeric there some of the time. Fresh turmeric root isn’t easy to find!
I do try to get organic when I can, but it is much pricier so I usually get conventional and wash it with plant soap really well.
SIZE/HUNGER
The lemon water and celery juice kind of stuff me because that is 64 ounces of liquid in the morning. I take my time drinking all of this and it takes me about 2-3 hours in the morning to get through this routine.
Therefore, I only use about 5 bananas in 3 days worth of smoothies because I don’t like a lot of food in the morning even before I drank this much.
If you tend to get hungry in the morning, eat more bananas or try having potatoes to satiate you.
You can try the potato recipe on the Medical medium Blog or the Potatoe Waffles. Potatoe Waffles are just mashed-up steamed potatoes in a waffle maker. You can top with maple syrup or Maple Cream (which is also fat-free). There are many more potato recipes on this blog as well.
WHAT EACH INGREDIENT DOES

CILANTRO
Cilantro removes heavy metals from the brain because the mineral salts like sodium, potassium, and chloride present in the living water of the leaves and stems can travel through the bloodstream, lymph fluid, spinal fluid, and blood-brain barrier. The brain likes to suck up these mineral salts.
When it has other phytochemical compounds attached to the mineral salts, they can remove the heavy metals and oxidized residue from neurons in the brain helping the brain work better overall!
AW speaks of the cilantro aversion here as well and tells us that it is from oxidation of heavy metals and the toxic runoff goes into the lymphatic system and the saliva. This runoff doesn’t mean there are more toxic metals, but a certain combination causes toxic runoff. If you don’t like it, it probably means you need it.
Cilantro is antiviral and antibacterial. Pathogens and parasites don’t like the taste of it! It can extract heavy metals from every part of the body including the liver! It helps the adrenals, balances glucose levels, and helps with weight gain.
EMOTIONAL SUPPORT
Cilantro helps us to find out our path in life without getting distracted by others’ behaviors or other options.
SPIRITUAL SUPPORT
Cilantro never stops pulling out heavy metals from our bodies. This teaches us that in life we can pull out negative emotions as well. If people in our lives need help; we can help them move past their problems by just lending a sympathetic ear. We can also purge negative self-talk and beliefs that don’t serve us as we heal! (p191)
BANANAS
Bananas’ sugar is bonded to trace minerals and larger minerals like potassium. Potassium helps with neurotransmitter function (brain function).
The sugar in the banana is not the same as processed sugar. These sugars are present with fiber, pulp, water, and phytonutrients that make up the entre banana which helps fight disease. The banana also has many amino acids that work with potassium to help produce electrolytes.
Bananas are antiviral, antifungal, and help feed beneficial bacteria in the gut while removing unproductive ones.
Bananas can help with sleep disorders, anxiety, depression, and digestive problems like IBS and Chron’s Disease. They also help balance stress and weight!
EMOTIONAL SUPPORT
Bananas help us pull back the peel of our false selves to expose our true inner core. They help calm a mind filled with fear, make us more productive, and help “dissolve feelings of ill will.” p61.
If you have a friend that is dealing with PTSD or resentment, give them a banana! 3 a day can help keep PTDS away!
SPIRUTAL SUPPORT
The banana plant isn’t a tree but rather a network of underground roots that shoot up with suckers. The roots are thick and wide not more than 8 inches in the soil. The trunks are formed layer upon layer of leaves of this plant.
Banana plants grow fast with new shoots sprouting up ready to take overgrowth if the central part of the plant has been taken out by the weather.
As we reach for the sky and continue to grow and blossom in our spiritual development we need to cast our support system far and wide so we can lean on these lessons if challenges take us down.
ORANGES
Oranges have a coenzyme, Glutathione, which is activated by its high content of flavonoids and limonoids. These three things fight off viruses, protect the body from radiation damage, and deactivate toxic heavy metals in the system.
Oranges can help regrow teeth due to their bioactive calcium.
The acid in oranges can help dissolve kidney stones and gallstones as well!
EMOTIONAL SUPPORT
Oranges juice can cut through doom and gloom and bring liquid sunshine into your life! Eat them when feeling sun-deprived in the winter. They will fill you with warmth!
SPIRITUAL SUPPORT
Oranges take a backseat in our diet. We don’t think much of them. In the past, our ancestors would treat the orange like gold because they weren’t always available, especially in the winter. When they were, they usually went to the very wealthy rather than the regular townsperson.
We need to think about what in our lives we have devalued and take a second glance. The orange is readily available during all times of the year. We need to value it again and make it central in our diets to help with many health issues!
WILD BLUEBERRIES
These are not comparable to the conventional bigger blueberry! Make sure to get the WILD blueberry!
Wild blueberries are adaptogens and antioxidants. They have survived millennia (10s of thousands of years) through climate changes and many other weather hardships. There are 100s of variables in their genetic makeup as a result of them being a wild food.
They are highly intelligent and can “read” your body to find diseases. Once they look at everything, they determine the best course of action to allow for healing. They take out all 4 of the unforgiving factors that harm our bodies including heavy metals. They are identified by the angles to help keep the human race alive in the coming times!

SPIRULINA
It is a blue-green alga with many vitamins and minerals present. It is also rich in protein (70%). It is easily digested and its nutrients are readily available due to not having cell walls. Spirulina can help keep your immune system in a top-notch state. It contains b12 and many other nutrients.
Spirulina also supports the cardiovascular system by reducing LDL cholesterol levels in some studies. Vimergy’s spirulina is certified non-GMO and organic. It is produced in America and not in China. I got this information from the Vimergy site listed in the More resources and references.
AW explains many more benefits of Spirulina in his blog. Spirulina has a GLA compound that is also found in breast milk to help develop babies. It has 10 times more Beta-Carotene than carrots. It is Iron-rich and this iron is easier to absorb than an iron supplement.
The protein in Spirulina can replace fatty meat and dairy products. Protein is essential for growth and cell regeneration, but we need to be careful of getting it from fatty sources if we have an overburdened liver.
Spirulina is a detoxifier and can help reduce allergic reactions from radiation sickness. In 1994 Russian scientists patented the algae because they saw it helped children reduce the number of Raionucleids (caused by radiation) by 50% when they had 5 grams a day for 45 days.
It can also remove toxic heavy metals that viruses and bacteria love to eat and the byproduct made from pathogens eating heavy metals causes many diseases. It will work with the other 5 ingredients in the heavy metal detox to remove the metals from our bodies.
There is a whole list of specific things the algae does on the blog for chronic illness. Some of the tips include that it helps restore brain tissue and regrown fresh neurons in the brain. The high amounts of chlorophyll in it will balance PH and alkalize the body, increase energy, aid digestion, and improve skin. It also assists circulation of the lymph system by bringing oxygen, nourishment, and healing mucous membranes.
It removes toxins and heavy metals from the thyroid. It can also help heal arthritis, migraines, asthma, fatigue, skin issues, cancer, and diabetes. It is naturally gluten-free as it is harvested as a young grass before it becomes the barley grain.
ATLANTIC SEA VEGETABLES
Seaweeds from the Atlantic Ocean help our bodies remove toxic heavy metals. Sea vegetables such as dulse, bladderwrack, kelp, alaria, sea lettuce, laver, Irish moss, and sea moss absorb radiation and other metals in the ocean and make them harmless.
